My husband wants to adopt my child – who is not his biological child. What should we do?
In Texas, a child can legally only have two parents – a mother and a father. A step-parent who wishes to adopt their stepchild may only do so if the parental rights of the child’s parent have been or will be terminated. For example, a step-mother wishing to adopt a stepchild may only do so if the parental rights of the child’s mother have been terminated or will be terminated prior to the adoption.
